Statement in Response to Governor Hochul’s 2025 State of the State Address
ALBANY, N.Y. Jan 14, 2025 – Lisa Dix, New York Director for the Building Decarbonization Coalition (BDC), provided the following statement in response to Governor Hochul’s 2025 State of the State speech:
“We are encouraged by Governor Hochul’s vision for a more just, equitable, and affordable New York, as outlined in her State of the State address. With families struggling under the weight of rising energy costs, bold leadership is essential to protect New Yorkers from the burdens of outdated fossil fuel infrastructure while advancing economic opportunities across the state.
Neighborhood-scale clean energy upgrades, as envisioned in the NY HEAT Act, offer a transformative solution. By redirecting investments from aging gas infrastructure to clean heating and cooling systems, we can modernize our infrastructure to support healthier communities and unlock new investments, create thousands of union jobs, and position the state as a global leader in clean energy innovation.
We celebrate the commitment to significant funding for building decarbonization, including thermal energy networks, and we urge the Governor to prioritize the NY HEAT Act in her Executive Budget. We look forward to working with her administration and the Legislature to lower costs for families, create good-paying jobs, and build a healthier, more affordable future for all New Yorkers.”
