Californians can now apply for HEEHRA rebates for home electrification through TECH Clean California
New rebates will give income-eligible California households up to $8,000 in rebates to upgrade to zero-emission electric appliances like heat pumps.

Sacramento, CA Today, $45 million in new HEEHRA rebates are available through the state’s award-winning heat pump initiative, TECH Clean California, to help income-eligible, single family households upgrade to clean, efficient, electric appliances.

The Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates Program (HEEHRA) is a statewide initiative funded by the federal Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), overseen by the U.S. Department of Energy, and managed by the California Energy Commission. HEEHRA is designed to help households improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve indoor air quality. The program will also support clean energy jobs and Governor Newsom’s statewide targets of achieving 3 million climate-ready homes and 6 million heat pumps by 2030.

When making the switch to a new heat pump HVAC system, California residents with single family household incomes between 80% and 150% area median income (AMI) will be eligible for rebates of up to $4,000; and single family households with incomes less than 80% area median income will be eligible for rebates of up to $8,000.

Program rebates must be obtained through a TECH Clean California-certified and HEEHRA-trained contractor. Homeowners can go to The Switch Is On, a statewide educational campaign, to find an eligible contractor and additional incentives that may be “stackable” with HEEHRA rebates.

An additional $35 million in rebates is available to improve multifamily properties. Multifamily property owners can apply for rebates up to $14,000 per dwelling unit when making the switch to a new heat pump HVAC system, heat pump water heater system, and other electric upgrades. Contractors interested in becoming a TECH-certified and HEEHRA-trained contractor can find additional information at The Switch Is On.
