Thermal Energy Networks in Minnesota: Where should we build them?
On January 15th, the Minnesota Department of Commerce released a groundbreaking new report, the Minnesota Thermal Energy Network Site Suitability Study. This study identified the most suitable places and solutions available for deploying thermal energy networks (TENs) across Minnesota.
In this webinar, Building The Future’s Chris Conry will facilitate a discussion with some of the report’s authors—Noah Cordoba of the Building Decarbonization Coalition, Laura Helmke-Long of Slipstream, Alex Nutkiewicz of Buro Happold, and Eric Bosworth of Thermal Energy Insights—that will provide more background on TENs and explore the findings of the study, including:
- How TENs use ground-source heat pumps and a shared network of underground pipes to deliver affordable, zero-emission heating and cooling to entire neighborhoods
- Why Minnesota’s climate, building stock, and existing policies make it well-suited for the deployment of TENs.
- Where TENs are most technically feasible in the state.
- How state support can help build out Minnesota’s TENs workforce and organizational capacity.
