STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO DELAYED IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ALL-ELECTRIC BUILDINGS ACT
ALBANY, N.Y. — The Building Decarbonization Coalition released the following statement in response to New York State’s delay in implementing the All-Electric Buildings Act:
“Since 2023, the State Building Code Council has worked tirelessly to lay the groundwork for implementing the landmark law requiring new construction of small buildings to be all-electric starting in 2026. Through extensive stakeholder engagement and technical review, the Council developed and unanimously approved an updated building code in July – a major step toward cleaner, healthier, and more affordable pollution-free buildings, in alignment with New York’s clean energy goals. We are deeply discouraged by this unnecessary delay, and look forward to this appeal being resolved in a timely manner so this cost-saving, common-sense affordability and clean energy measure can move forward. Every day of inaction slows progress toward safer and more affordable new homes and buildings.”
