Statement in Response to New York Building and Energy Code Proposal to Advance Zero-Emission New Buildings
ALBANY, N.Y. February 28, 2025 – Lisa Dix, New York Director for the Building Decarbonization Coalition (BDC), provided the following statement in response to the New York Building and Energy Code Proposal:
“We celebrate and congratulate New York State on a major step forward in implementing the landmark, first-in-nation All-Electric Buildings Act of 2023, and share our enthusiastic support for its inclusion in the updated State Building Code, ensuring zero-emission new buildings by 2026. We will continue to advocate for improvements in key areas, including mandatory energy reporting, clear regulations to decarbonize district energy systems (DES), and consistent guidance across jurisdictions. Addressing these gaps is essential to fully align with New York’s Climate Law implementation plan and deliver on the state’s building decarbonization commitments. We look forward to continuing working with the State Code Council to strengthen the Code and maximize its impact.”
